Ms. Susan Benjamin

Governing Board Member

Ms. Susan Benjamin began serving on the District Governing Board in January of 2013. Raised in Virginia, she has lived in the City of Phoenix for over 30 years, and prior to retirement was the Director of Special Education in the Madison Elementary School District.

A career educator, Ms. Benjamin has taught at schools in Virginia and Arizona, including Carl Hayden and Shadow Mountain High Schools in Phoenix. She has served as Principal of Roadrunner School in the Paradise Valley Unified School District and as Assistant Director of Special Education in the Paradise Valley district. Ms. Benjamin has worked extensively on early intervention for all students in her tenure as an administrator, focusing specifically on Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) along with Reading and Math Intervention. She has served on a state-wide committee for implementation of PBIS.

Ms. Benjamin has a Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision from George Mason University and a BS from James Madison University. Ms. Benjamin and her husband Paul have two grown sons and two granddaughters.
