Faith North’s Passion for Parent Involvement

Faith North’s Passion for Parent Involvement

A PTA mom wanted to be involved in her two sons’ education. That passion and dedication went on to shape the future of our district. Mrs. Faith North was involved with her sons’ school and went on to become the president of the Arizona Congress of Parents & Teachers. She later became a member of the Board of Trustees for Phoenix Elementary School District from 1944 to 1956. She was committed to providing a good school program for all children by keeping well-maintained buildings, well-trained teachers, and adequate teaching materials. She had the honor of making the motion, in which the Board concurred, to integrate the schools in the district. A Phoenix radio host, Mr. Williams, remembered her by saying, “this rather small lady with a wry smile and quick, darting eyes had courage and enough to spare – and energy that burned like a fierce flame against the darkness.” Her legacy left a mark on our school district and in her honor  Faith North Early Childhood Learning Center carries on her spirit. The preschool classrooms create an environment that promotes independence, fosters decision-making, and encourages the involvement of children and families.
