What brought you to teaching children: I had many music and Choir teachers growing up. I had great ones and some not so great ones. Because my love of music was so strong, the bad ones did not change my passion to sing (though it could have). I made a vow in high school that I would be a teacher that developed and inspired the love of music in all my students.

Favorite book, as an adult, and why: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Johnathan Safran Foer. It changed the way I had always seen books. It combated the traditional format of literature and did so while telling a beautiful and heartbreaking story.

Creative curriculum (something you do to personalize curriculum, annual project…): I have started a Ukulele Choir at Herrera. My 4th graders start to learn ukulele basics and my 5th and 6th grade Choir perform using ukuleles to accompany themselves while singing covers of popular songs.
