What makes Herrera Special?
Herrera is special because it has been my home away from home. Moving to a completely new state and being a first year teacher a couple years ago was not easy but teaching here at Herrera made the transition easier. I absolutely love the students here, and being able to watch my former students grow has been incredible!

What brought you to teaching children:
It is in my blood- so to speak. I come from a line of educators; my paternal grandfather was a professor in Mexico. However, I knew I wanted to teach since I was in elementary. When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my response was always “teacher.” I am the eldest of three younger cousins. During our free time, we would play “school.” I would set up the living room into a classroom; I even had my own whiteboard! We would play for hours! Since I was the eldest, I always taught them what I had learned in school. I stayed true to my dream and here I am now J
Favorite book, as an adult, and why:
For my own entertainment, I would have to choose “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The book captures one of the most exciting eras in history—the Roaring Twenties.
Creative curriculum (something you do to personalize curriculum, annual project…):
I personalize curriculum through Science by encouraging students to be creative and active explorers. They do many hands on projects that allows them to think their own thoughts and try out ideas.
