COVID-19 Pediatric Pfizer Vaccine Now Available for Children 5 to 11 Years of Age

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) just announced their recommendation that children 5 to 11 years old be vaccinated against COVID-19  with the Pfizer pediatric vaccine.  Our partners at Grant Park and the Phoenix Union High School District (PXU) will offer the pediatric Pfizer vaccine beginning this weekend and throughout the month of November.

PXU will offer the pediatric Pfizer vaccine at six schools on Saturday, November 6 (for the first dose) and December 4 (for the second dose).  In addition, the Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson initial and booster doses are available for those eligible at every event.  Appointments are not required.  Below are the dates, times, and locations offering the pediatric vaccine:

In addition, Grant Park is offering vaccine events, including the pediatric Pfizer vaccine, every Tuesday beginning November 9 from 4 – 8 p.m., at 701 S. 3rd Avenue.

According to the CDC, “Vaccination, along with other preventative measures, can protect children from COVID-19 using the safe and effective vaccines already recommended for use in adolescents and adults in the United States.  Similar to what was seen in adult vaccine trials, vaccination was nearly 91 percent effective in preventing COVID-19 among children aged 5-11 years.  Vaccine side effects were mild and similar to those seen in adults and with other vaccines recommended for children.  The most common side effect was a sore arm.”
