Phoenix Elementary School District Governing Board Selects New Superintendent

The Phoenix Elementary School District Governing Board recently selected Dr. Ibi Haghighat as the next superintendent of Phoenix #1. Dr. Haghighat begins her new position on July 1, 2022, and replaces Dr. Larry Weeks who is retiring after 10 years of service to the District.

Dr. Haghighat is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education in the Scottsdale Unified School District. She is a dedicated, enthusiastic, and innovative public school educator. For the past 27 years, Dr. Haghighat has served students in three states and five large school districts. Through a collaborative process, she has led school improvement in her role as a principal, assistant principal, and teacher leader. She attributes her success to the strong relationships she builds along with her ability to empower, motivate, and inspire others.

Family and community engagement has been key for her to advance student academic, social, and emotional growth. As a bilingual, biliterate, in English and Spanish, and bicultural individual, Dr. Haghighat has the ability to communicate and better understand students and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Her experiences in serving the needs of students in Title I and non-Title I populations have prepared her to lead this district by using an equity lens to provide opportunities for all students to learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment.

The Phoenix Elementary School District welcomes Dr. Haghighat to the Phoenix #1 community, and we look forward to having her as our next leader.
