Homeless Assistance

At Phoenix #1, we are committed to supporting all students, including homeless children and youth, to provide equal access to public education. We work diligently across the District from our transportation team to our social workers to ensure all students have everything they need including food, transportation, eyeglasses, and clothing – whatever the need may be. We want children enrolled and successful, no matter what their housing situation may be.

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvement Act of 2001 defines educational rights and responsibilities to children and youth who are experiencing homelessness. Each state and local educational agency shall ensure that each child of a homeless individual and each homeless youth have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, provided to other children and youth. Further, homeless children and youth shall have access to the education and other services needed to ensure that they have an opportunity to meet the same challenging state student academic achievement standards to which all students are held.

If your family is lacking a fixed, adequate and regular place to sleep please contact the Phoenix #1 MV Liaison at 602-523-8988.
