02 Nov Reopening Schools Date
The Phoenix Elementary School District monitors the COVID-19 health benchmarks on a weekly basis, and the District has not yet met the approved benchmarks to reopen schools for in-person instruction. In addition, the statewide health benchmarks are on the rise. With the cold and flu season beginning, as we head into the Thanksgiving Holiday and Winter Break, and out of the health and safety concerns for students and staff, the Phoenix Elementary Governing Board voted to postpone the reopening of schools until January.
The District will continue to monitor the benchmarks over winter break and are tentatively planning to reopen for in-person instruction on January 14, 2021, if we meet the approved benchmarks for reopening. We understand this decision may be difficult for our families, but we want to ensure that we are reopening our schools in the safest and healthiest environments.
The District has posted information and our approved reopening metrics on our website, and we invite you to monitor our reopening progress. This information is updated each Thursday based on new information the Maricopa County Department of Public Health releases each week.
Thank you for all you are doing to help your children in the online learning model. You are doing an incredible job and we thank you for your continued support.
