“Ultimately there are two kinds of schools: learning enriched schools and learning-impoverished schools. I have yet to see a school where the learning curves of the adults were steep upward and those of the students were not. Teachers and students go hand and hand as learners… or they don’t go at all.”
– Roland Barth, Learning by Heart
At Whittier, we are committed to working and learning together in order to continually grow as professionals. We research effective best-practices for high-performing urban schools, and we work together to assimilate these practices with our own in an effort to increase student learning.
Teachers and instructional coaches meet weekly in grade level teams. At these meetings, we focus on analyzing student data, reflecting on current practices, and planning for instruction. Teachers are committed to sharing ideas, resources, and materials in an effort to support ALL students.
